Absences, Holidays & Vacations

Absences and Withdrawals

Please notify the provider by 9:00 AM if your child will be absent for the day. Please call (510) 709 5010 cell or (510) 972-0805 home.   Tuition will still be required for absences.

A two week written notice is required before withdrawing your child from Smiling Faces Preschool.   This will avoid any additional fees.   Please refer to the Financial Agreement.

Holidays and Closures

The provider will be paid for all of the following holidays.   Should a holiday fall on the weekend, operating hours and payments will be as follows:

Holiday falls on a Saturday:  Smiling Faces will be closed on Friday.

Holiday falls on a Sunday: Smiling Faces will be closed on Monday.

Smiling Faces will be closed on the following holidays:

  • Labor Day (September)
  • Veteran’s Day (November)
  • 3:30PM Wednesday before Thanksgiving
  • Thanksgiving and the day After (November)
  • Christmas Eve, Day and day after (December)
  • New Year’s (January)
  • Martin Luther King Day (January)
  • Memorial Day (May)
  • Independence Day (July)

Vacation/Leave Time

The provider is allowed ten days of paid vacation each calendar year where the program will be closed.   A two week notice will be given to families to find alternate care. Vacation days may be added to the holiday schedule when needed. For example, while the Christmas days noted above are for holidays, often we close for the entire week using vacation days to make up the difference.

Every year, Smiling Faces will be closed the entire third week of August for cleaning, repairs and maintenance.  This week is not charged tuition.

Parents are allowed five days of vacation per calendar year from the program without a fee charged. A written notice is needed two weeks in advance to avoid a fee. This notice will also secure your child’s spot when returning.

If the provider is unable to care for the children, due to an illness or emergency, a fee will not be charged. Please have alternate care available.

Should your vacation time fall on a Holiday listed in our Holiday list above, the family is still responsible for paying the provider for that Holiday. It will be prorated. Please see Other Policies on your Financial Agreement.
